Two Traditions of Group Development

NTL INSTITUE PROGRAM Two Traditions of Group Development: NTL Institute and The Tavistock Institute
Co-sponsored by NTL Institute and The Tavistock Institute

With the introduction of new organizational forms such as self-managed teams and flatter hierarchies, "the group" as a social unit has increased in importance. This program combines the experiential, didactic, and practical applications in the theories developed by NTL and The Tavistock Institute. Using the approaches of both institutes creates a balance of interpersonal and organizational insights and skills and expands awareness of the more complex group, intergroup, and institutional dynamics of new organizational forms.

Training staff from both institutes will present concepts and theories relevant to their respective traditions and methodology. Participants will learn to distinguish the theories influencing NTL and Tavistock approaches to group development; diagnose and intervene in groups from both the social psychological (NTL) and the analytical (Tavistock) perspectives; examine the impact of social differences on group dynamics; and apply, articulate, and integrate elements of both traditions into their individual work and professional roles.

This progran will be offered in 2001 andrequires an enrollment of 20-24 participants.

Prerequisite: NTL Core Program (or equivalent) or experience with Tavistock Institute tradition of group learning.

Tuition: $2,100
