Chaos is not utter confusion. Chaos is constrained, rather than explosive instability.

Working with Diversity
Framework and Approaches to Organization Change

In September 2000, Evangelina Holvino served as an expert advisor to the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Gender and Diversity Program, whose goal was to institutionalize the leadership, skills, policies, and norms to ensure the sixteen CGIAR Centers’ capacity to work with and maximize the full benefits of staff diversity. Staff and representatives of the Centers, a network of international agricultural research organizations, met to discuss and share models and methods for working with diversity as a means to enhance organizational effectiveness. 10 nationalities were represented among 29 participants.

Evangelina Holvino, president of Chaos Management, Ltd. and senior research faculty at the Center for Gender in Organizations, Simmons College (Boston, Massachusetts) developed and presented a framework paper, Working with Diversity: A Focus on Global Organizations, as well as an interactive module on the Multicultural Organization Development Model. The workshop provided an opportunity to test the usefulness of the framework for internal change agents and resulted in the development of educational materials to make the framework understood at the level of “head, heart, and hand.”
