Cases: Building organizational capacity
In Nigeria, in collaboration with Nigerian colleagues, we developed a cadre of 60 national internal resources for the Ministry of Health over the course of ten years to provide consultation and training to family planning and primary health care clinics. The project included curriculum and materials development, delivery of workshops in adult education, health and consultation skills, trainer of trainers, and support for the formation of a network of consultants and trainers in health care. The consultants developed by the Nigerian Family Planning Health Trainers Network are now senior consultants actively working in the Nigerian public sectors today.
Funded by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation and the Center for Gender in Organizations, we brought together twelve gender-diversity experts from six African universities to share best practices and successes and form a network of support for the implementation of change strategies. In it is 5fth year, the African Universities Gender Resource Network rotates its leadership and meetings among its participating members every year.
